When the Spark Fizzles Out — How I Reignite My Drive (And How You Can Too)
What Keeps Me Going:
Purpose – When I know my work is helping someone—even in small, unseen ways - it gives the grind meaning.
Progress - I’m a sucker for ticking boxes. Momentum breeds motivation.
People - Energy is contagious. Talking with sharp, curious, good-humoured people recharges me.
Autonomy - Give me room to shape my day, and I’m twice as likely to show up with focus.
How I Get Back on Track:
Micro-goals - Tiny, achievable wins. Just enough to break inertia.
Change the scene - New environment = new mindset. Sometimes all I need is a noisy café and a good coffee.
Pause and reflect - I ask, “What’s really off here?” It’s surprising how often the answer is simple.
Re-anchor to purpose - Why did I start this? Who benefits from it? That clarity brings the spark back.
Even Leaders Need to Dig Deep
With the recent election behind us, I’ve been thinking about how our leaders stay motivated in the long game. Take Prime Minister Anthony Albanese - juggling relentless pressure, public scrutiny, and long hours. Yet when he speaks about purpose - whether it’s lifting people up, building a fairer economy, or shaping Australia’s future - you can tell that’s what keeps him moving forward.
It’s a timely reminder: when the “why” is strong, the “how” gets easier.
Your Turn:
Motivation doesn’t always roar. Sometimes, it’s just a quiet decision to keep showing up.
So, what fuels you when your motivation hits empty? Drop a comment here - I’d love to hear what works for you.
Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working."
