BUILDING CREDIBILITY – IT’S THE SMALL THINGS THAT MATTER MOST

We talk a lot about credibility in business. It’s something everyone wants - with clients, with candidates, within teams. But the reality is, credibility isn’t built in big moments.
It’s built quietly, consistently, in the things that are easy to overlook. It’s often the things that are easy not to do or the ones we ignore.
Because credibility isn’t about what you say - it’s about what you do. Repeatedly.
In recruitment and client-facing roles, it shows up in ways that might seem small but carry a lot of weight.
It’s calling when you said you would.
It’s sending that follow-up without being chased.
It’s being prepared for a conversation, not just turning up to it.
These aren’t headline moments — but they’re the ones people remember.
Reliability builds trust. And trust builds credibility.
It also comes down to honesty - especially when it would be easier not to be honest at times.
Not overselling a role just to get buy-in.
Not pushing a candidate who isn’t quite right.
Being upfront when expectations don’t align.
Those conversations aren’t always comfortable, but they’re the ones that build long-term relationships. People don’t expect perfection, but they do expect honesty.
Honesty builds credibility faster than any sales pitch ever will.
Another piece that often gets overlooked is consistency.
It’s easy to show up well once.
It’s much harder, and far more valuable, to show up well every time.
Being steady in how you communicate.
Being clear in how you manage expectations.
Being someone people know they can rely on, regardless of the situation.
That’s what separates a good operator from someone people genuinely trust.
Then there’s the part no one really talks about - owning it when things go wrong. We all know things will go wrong from time to time.
A process falls over.
A candidate pulls out.
A placement doesn’t work.
Credibility isn’t lost in those moments. It’s lost in how they’re handled. Avoiding the conversation, shifting blame, or going quiet - that’s what damages trust as quick as you earnt it. Owning it, communicating early, and working towards a solution. That’s what strengthens it.
People don’t lose trust when things go wrong. They lose trust when you don’t show up properly when they do.
It’s easy to think credibility comes from big wins, impressive titles, or sounding confident.
But in reality, it’s built through follow-through, honesty, consistency, and accountability.
The things that don’t always get noticed immediately but always get remembered over time.
If you’re thinking about your own credibility this week, don’t just look at the big moments.
Look at the small ones. That’s where it’s really built.
Credibility isn’t created overnight — but it is built daily. Put it on repeat!
Happy Friday😊
