The Birth of Simpli-U - Why I Finally Took the Leap

For a long time, I was one of those people quietly dreaming about doing my own thing—but not quite ready to leap and no real idea how to put it all together. I told myself I needed more time. More money. More certainty. I stayed in environments that didn’t quite fit, playing by rules that didn’t quite feel like mine, because the fear of the unknown was louder than the whisper of possibility.
I was working in an agency, slogging away—long hours (and I mean long), showing up at the office day in and day out, and meeting or exceeding my KPIs. But every time I got close to hitting the rewards I’d worked so hard for, the goalposts moved. The constant churn of staff, the misalignment of values, and the growing unethical discomfort were hard to ignore. I began to ask: If I keep following this path, who am I becoming?
I was also deeply concerned about my reputation—and how my clients would perceive the service that had been mandated by management. Following these new processes often meant prioritising numbers over people, which didn’t align with the level of service I wanted to provide.
Then came the snap moment.
The one where I realised: If I don’t take this risk now, I might never do it.
One day, I was at my desk, questioning everything. The next, I was handing in my resignation. It wasn’t impulsive—it was overdue. And with that decision came an unexpected wave of relief… and a fire in my belly.
That moment ignited the birth of Simpli-U.
Now it was up to me. No backup plan, just determination. With financial commitments on the line and a deep drive to do things differently, I went full steam ahead - determined to finally bring my industry knowledge to life on my terms. At the time, I was a generalist recruiter working across various industry sectors. What I had was experience, grit, and a vision to create something from nothing.
The name Simpli-U represents exactly what I wanted to bring back to recruitment: the personal touch. It's about putting the “U” back into the process—whether you’re a client or a candidate. It’s my commitment to making every interaction feel seen, valued, and human. This business is about you, and the people behind every placement.
I’m committed to working with clients and candidates who share my values, and who know they’re more than just a number or a seat to fill—they're my priority!
Where I Am Now—and Where You Might Be
Since that day, Simpli-U has become more than just a business—it’s a reflection of the values I refused to compromise on. It’s built on honesty, real relationships, and the belief that recruitment doesn’t have to feel transactional. It can be human, intentional, and simple.
While the early days weren’t easy, they were liberating. Because when you’re building something that aligns with who you are, even the hardest work feels worth it.
Today, Simpli-U continues to grow in a niche market of Novated Leasing, Salary Packaging, and Fleet Management. It’s an area I knew nothing about when I first stumbled into it as a generalist recruiter, but I’ve been immersed in it for over 16 years now. I’m passionate about it, and I’ve continued to build my business in this space through word-of-mouth, strong relationships, and a lot of heart. I’m proud of how far it’s come—and even more excited about what’s next.
So that’s a little bit about me and Simpli-U.
If you’ve been thinking about making a bold move—starting your own business, changing industries, or stepping away from what no longer fits—I won’t tell you it’s easy. But I will tell you this:
The fear is real. But so is the freedom waiting on the other side of it.
